Décorer son carnet sans savoir dessiner : Partie 3
Partager
And here is the final article in the series "Decorate your journal without knowing how to draw". In this one, we'll see how to make the most of your paint, colored pencils, and other mediums, even if you are a beginner. You'll discover quick and simple tips to make your pages look aesthetic.
Add color to your journal!
Do you have colored pencils, gouache, watercolors, or other mediums on hand? You'd like to use them, but lack confidence? Don't panic! You are about to discover how to express your creativity and embellish your pages with complete simplicity.
However, a word of warning is necessary regarding the use of paint in your journal. Indeed, if the paper is not suitable, it could hold a few nasty surprises for you.
Our Rêverie journals are specially designed for artists. Thanks to their thick, cold-pressed paper, they not only offer a beautiful aesthetic texture, but also accommodate paint optimally. It is the ideal choice for watercolor. To get yours, click here!

Color Swatches
I love making swatches when I buy new mediums. It's simple, pretty, and very useful: by displaying all your colors on one page, you have a practical reference for your future creations. For example, here is a swatch made with my Caran d'Ache Supracolor (watercolor pencils).

Color Blocks
Simply create color blocks on your pages. You can then write your entries, quotes, or any other ideas inside them. This contrast adds dynamism to your page layout.

Tip: use a white Uniball Signo pen for a change from black or blue ink.

Horizontal and Vertical Lines
Lines are your allies in structuring your pages. Play with thicknesses and colors:
Thick horizontal lines

Vertical lines

Gingham Pattern
Inspired by checkered fabric, the gingham pattern consists of layering horizontal and vertical lines. The intersection of these lines creates subtle plays of contrast that bring your pages to life.

A Simple Frame
Sometimes, a frame is enough to dress up a page. Surround your text with a solid color line.
Or by using small patterns like hearts or stars.
Pair your frames with stickers to add a little extra touch.

Dare to be Abstract
Here is a tip that I particularly enjoy, even if I don't do it as often as I'd like: creating abstract patterns as a background for your pages. Let your creativity run wild and vary from one page to another. Be careful, however, with the choice of colors and mediums. Here, I recommend opting for a watercolor that isn't too dark, so you can write over it without difficulty.

Your Turn!
As you have seen, it is entirely possible to make use of paint, pencils, and other artistic mediums, even without mastering drawing. These tools offer a multitude of possibilities to enhance your pages creatively. Whether you opt for simple color swatches or abstract patterns, there are accessible and effective techniques to personalize your journal.
